People tend to visit the same sites frequently, so they don’t realize how truly ginormous the Internet really is. It is so big, that even with the millions of sites that Google has indexed, as of 2010, Google had only indexed .004% of the data on the Internet. Google had indexed 200 terabytes of the 5 million terabytes of information that existed on the Internet.
At the time, there were 193 million domain registrations and 46% of those were .com websites. There were over 1.9 billion people who used the Internet in 2010, and of those 1.9 billion 42% were Asian. Social media is also a way that the Internet has become absolutely huge.
If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest country in the world (in 2010). China had 1.3 billion people at the time and India had 1.18 billion people at the time. The nation of Facebook had half a billion at the time. That was almost 200 million people than the United States.
There were 106 billion twitter accounts and about 300,000 people joining every day! There was also 2 billion videos seen on YouTube and 24 hours of video was uploaded every minute. With such high numbers only two years ago, imagine how high they are now!
